my character strength

Was compulsory to take this survey that measure your character strengths and I was suppose to copy it down. So I paste it here and here's my top five characters :

Your Top Character Strength

Fairness, equity, and justice
Treating all people fairly is one of your abiding principles. You do not let your personal feelings bias your decisions about other people. You give everyone a chance.

Your Second Character Strength

Honesty, authenticity, and genuineness
You are an honest person, not only by speaking the truth but by living your life in a genuine and authentic way. You are down to earth and without pretense; you are a "real" person.

Your Third Character Strength

Perspective (wisdom)
Although you may not think of yourself as wise, your friends hold this view of you. They value your perspective on matters and turn to you for advice. You have a way of looking at the world that makes sense to others and to yourself.

Your Fourth Character Strength

Capacity to love and be loved
You value close relations with others, in particular those in which sharing and caring are reciprocated. The people to whom you feel most close are the same people who feel most close to you.

Your Fifth Character Strength

Appreciation of beauty and excellence
You notice and appreciate beauty, excellence, and/or skilled performance in all domains of life, from nature to art to mathematics to science to everyday experience.

update 2

Today supposedly should be the last day. Somehow we get a big project waiting for us next month. I need volunteers! Who's free on 12th-14th June?

Here's some picture of our materials. Don't have picture of me going around asking people for money because I didn't do that and no photographer for me. What I did was, went into classes, announced and explained, walked around in class and collected funds. What I found out was, the best time to collect fund was before a class start. People are free and got nothing to do, so they'll really pay attention to you. Plus social conformity and peer pressure, especially when the lecturer is supportive to the event, 3/4 of the class will donate.
Note: B.Psych lecturers are really nice! B.Psych students are kind also lah, haha~

Save a Dog, Save a Life!

Appreciation souvenir: Printed bookmark

Volunteer badge with our logo (I made one!)

Donation box and US 1 dollar that a foreign student donated
(I took it out and put in RM10 as exchange. US 1 dollar=RM10? XD)

And 小白卖血救狗~ 伟大到~~

Update

I'm feeling happy now~Don't ask me why,personal stuff~

Anyway,'Save a dog, save a life' project was not going so well after the first day. Didn't get much donation after the first day on Club and Society Day. Never mind, this week going to be full drive, collect as much money as we could. I'll hand over the money to Sabrina in FFF personally next Sunday as I'm going FFF together with Adrian and the team. Our objective had change and we are under Sabrina now. Instead of going over to Pulau Ketam, we'll go over to FFF once in every two weekend to help out in the farm.

Maybe boundary will help to solve our problem?
I've got the answer I want. No more headache.
Expect the least or the worst,do not expect the best,so you won't get too disappointed.

Save a dog,save a life

Sometimes when I look back,I can't understand how heaven on earth would I been together with someone like that. Imagine if she's still with me now? hmm...

Life comes with stages. Transition stage perhaps? When you're in this stage, you won't be the same like previous stage.

Anyway, the fund raising/donation drive/whatever-you-wanna-called-it is starting tomorrow. It will be just a short while start-up during Club and Society Day due to lack of volunteers availability on that day. We all have our own stuff to busy on. However,we are still able to come out with poster and bookmarks. Our theme will be 'Save a dog, save a life'. What it means is when you're saving a dog, you're saving a life. A dog's life is a life, and it matters. I was trying to upload the poster, but it's in PDF file =.='' I'll take a picture and show it here, if I'm free, XD~

Don't breed or buy while shelter animals die

Content of this post was copied and pasted with permission of Shoba from Remembering Sheena's blog.

A Letter from a Shelter Manager (forwarded to us by Yen):

I think our society needs a huge " Wake-up" call. As a shelter manager, I am going to share a little insight with you all. ..a view from the inside if you will.

First off, all of you breeders/sellers should be made to work in the "back" of an animal shelter for just one day.

Maybe if you saw the life drain from a few sad, lost, confused eyes, you would change your mind about breeding and selling to people you don't even know. That puppy you just sold will most likely end up in my shelter when it's not a cute little puppy anymore.

So how would you feel if you knew that there's about a > 90% chance that dog will never walk out of the shelter it is going to be dumped at? Purebred or not!

About 50% of all of the dogs that are "owner surrenders" or "strays" that come into my shelter are purebred dogs.

The most common excuses I hear are;

"We are moving and we can't take our dog (or cat).

" Really? Where are you moving to that doesn't allow pets and why did you choose that place instead of a pet friendly home?

Or they say "The dog got bigger than we thought it would".

How big did you think a German Shepherd would get?

"We don't have time for her". Really? I work a 10- 12 hour day and still have time for my 6 dogs!

"She's tearing up our yard". How about making her a part of your family?

They always tell me: "We just don't want to have to stress about finding a place for her we know she'll get adopted, she's a good dog."

Odds are your pet won't get adopted & how stressful do you think being in a shelter is? Well, let me tell you, your pet has 72 hours to find a new family from the moment
you drop it off. Sometimes a little longer if the shelter isn't full and your dog manages to stay completely healthy. If it sniffles, it dies.

Your pet will be confined to a small run/kennel in a room with about 25 other barking or crying animals. It will have to relieve itself where it eats and sleeps.

It will be depressed and it will cry constantly for the family that abandoned it.

If your pet is lucky, I will have enough volunteers in that day to take him/her for a walk. If I don't, your pet won't get any attention besides having a bowl of food slid under the kennel door and the waste sprayed out of its pen with a high-powered hose.

If your dog is big, black or any of the "Bully" breeds (pit bull, rottie, mastiff, etc) it was pretty much dead when you walked it through the front door. Those dogs just don't get adopted.

It doesn't matter how 'sweet' or 'well behaved' they are. If your dog doesn't get adopted within its 72 hours and the shelter is full, it will be destroyed.

If the shelter isn't full and your dog is good enough, and of a desirable enough breed it may get a stay of execution, but not for long.

Most dogs get very kennel protective after about a week and are destroyed for showing aggression. Even the sweetest dogs will turn in this environment.

If your pet makes it over all of those hurdles chances are it will get kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection and will be destroyed because shelters just don't have the funds to pay for even a $100 treatment.

Here's a little euthanasia 101 for those of you that have never witnessed a perfectly healthy, scared animal being "put-down"....

First, your pet will be taken from its kennel on a leash. They always look like they think they are going for a walk - happy, wagging their tails.

Until, they get to "The Room", every one of them freak out and put the brakes on when we get to the door. It must smell like death or they can feel the sad souls that are left in there, it's strange, but it happens with every one of them.

Your dog or cat will be restrained, held down by 1 or 2 vet techs depending on the size and how freaked out they are.

Then a euthanasia tech or a vet will start the process. They will find a vein in the front leg and inject a lethal dose of the "pink stuff".

Hopefully your pet doesn't panic from being restrained and jerk. I've seen the needles tear out of a leg and been covered with the resulting blood and been deafened by the yelps and screams.

They all don't just "go to sleep", sometimes they spasm for a while, gasp for air and defecate on themselves.

When it all ends, your pet's corpse will be stacked like firewood in a large freezer in the back with all of the other animals that were killed waiting to be picked up like garbage.

What happens next? Cremated? Taken to the dump? Rendered into pet food? You'll never know and it probably won't even cross your mind. It was just an animal and you can always buy another one, right?

I hope that those of you that have read this are bawling your eyes out and can't get the pictures out of your head I deal with everyday on the way home from work.

I hate my job, I hate that it exists & I hate that it will always be there unless you people make some changes and realize that the lives you are affecting go much further than the pets you dump at a shelter.

Between 9 and 11 MILLION animals die every year in shelters and only you can stop it. I do my best to save every life I can but rescues are always full, and there are more animals coming in everyday than there are homes.

My point to all of this: DON'T BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER PETS DIE!

Hate me if you want to. The truth hurts and reality is what it is.

I just hope I maybe changed one person's mind about breeding their dog, taking their loving pet to a shelter, or buying a dog.

I hope that someone will walk into my shelter and say "I saw this and it made me want to adopt." THAT WOULD MAKE IT WORTH IT!

DON'T BUY FROM PET SHOPS. ADOPT FROM AN ANIMAL SHELTER. CALL YEN IF YOU CAN PROVIDE A HOME FOR A RESCUED DOG OR CAT. CALL HER ALSO IF YOU WANT TO BOARD YOUR PETS. SHE HAS A GREAT PLACE AND THEY WON'T BE CAGED. THE INCOME SHE EARNS FROM BOARDING GOES INTO RESCUING AND REHOMING STRAYS. SO YOUR PETS HAVE A GREAT TIME WHILE YOU ARE AWAY AND IN THE PROCESS YOU ARE ALSO HELPING ABANDONED AND HOMELESS ANIMALS.YEN: 012 415 1524

Dogs Matter to Us

I'm happy. My initial plan for just a small donation drive in my college is going to be a big one with a strong force behind me.

When I asked Little V that if I'm going to organize a donation event would she help me, she brought in my gang. These are people with strong leadership and they have plenty of experience in organizing events. Steph and Wei Choon, I appreciate that~ I need more volunteers~ B.Psychers here, what says you? XD

Yes this will be a donation drive for the Dog Rescue Mission about Pulau Ketam dogs. The funds will go to Sabrina Yeap's FFF (Furry Friends Farm) as her farm use no euthesize on dogs and she's keeping most of the rescue dogs in her farms temporarily. SPCA had have enough fund for the operation as they are internationally recognized organization. Public will mostly donate to SPCA, but not FFF.

Anyone wants to donate? Here's the detail (copy and paste from TV Smith's page) :

Pulau Ketam Day 1

Yes I went to Pulau Ketam today. For what? To survey the island and to prepare next trip to save dogs from the island.

Photos from today's trip, shoot by a freelance photojournalist with a 8k professional DSLR Canon don't know which version camera.
http://joyce-tedoen.com/recon-trip-1-several-down-several-more-to-go/

'To say one own as dog lover, must have some action to prove it,and now is the time to start'

Instead of kacau the work of those professional animals right activists doing their work on saving dogs from the inhabitable islands, I'm joining a volunteering work of getting the stray dogs out of Pulau Ketam before the head of village have no choice but call the Manipal folks to get rid of the dogs. Mind you, some of the press might projected the villagers as crual or inhuman, but for me, they are just traditional chinese village folks. They're friendly and united among themselves. They put their bikes everywhere without having to worry they won't see their bikes after they come out from a shop. It's a peaceful village. No they don't hate dogs, they were worry what will we do to the dogs after we get the dogs. They don't want the dogs to die, but they just don't know that the islands that they put the dogs are so lifeless, or they forgot that the dogs have lost the ability to survive by their own.

The task we're going to do is not easy,I don't know how we're going to do it, or how will it works out. But I'm serious in this.

Rescue mission ON

Sorry folks,I'll delay pics and writing on Redang trip. I'm currently into this:

In case you didn't get any news about this matter, click HERE and HERE.
For full coverage of news on this, click HERE.

To summarize, Pulau Ketam folks trapped more than 300 stray dogs of the pulau and shipped them to another inhabitable and isolated islands, Pulau Tengah and Pulau Selat Kering. Now these dogs are starving to death on the islands. Rescue mission is carrying out by SPCA and Furry Friends Farm to get the dogs back to mainland. Some critiqued the Pulau Ketam villagers inhuman act, while some critiqued the rescue mission for wasting money to save dogs.

In my opinion, Pulau Ketam recidents complained to Majlis Perbandaran that stray dogs problem was getting serious but they don't want Majlis Perbandaran people shot down the strays, so someone came out with the idea that transport all the stray dogs in the town to another island. Stray dogs problem solved, and they think the dogs are survivor, can live without food and fresh water on the inhabitable island. People don't want the dogs to be shot dead, so they spent money and energy to trapped and transfered hundreds of stray dogs to another island. This is act of goodness. But I think they forgot that dogs, that had became domestic animal since few thousand years ago, had lost their wildness because they were too close to human and were dependent on human on survival. None of the dogs were born without having contact with human in their whole life. They won't be able to survive without human around.

As another saying that why waste the effort and money to save the dog, a life is a life, let it be animal or human. More over, dogs are creatures that are emotional, just like human. And yes, I'm a dog lover. And it's time to have make some contribution if I'm to say I'm a dog lover. I'm planning to organize a fund raising for the rescue mission in my collage, with few friends helping out. Just a small event, to collect as much money as we could, and help to save as many dogs as we could from the island. I just sent out an email to get approval from the Head of Department. Hope to get a reply soon. Also, I contacted someone from a forum that is trying to form a group to collaborate and help out the rescue mission. It's time for devotion.
